Yes, a hit. Possibly from a back-in-the-day vending machine. We see this a few times each year.

Just coincidental damage to your cent. Yes it does look the same, but it just took a hit. Your coin was minted in San Francisco and the first coin posted here was minted across the country in Philadelphia. So there is no chance that it was from the same die pair.
