Ive come across Ghost Numbering Next to dates on a few Quarters I have a 1981 this 67 I can see a 1 next to the 1 and a 5 next to the 7 Ive never found any info on this

In order to be numbers, they would have to be raised like the normal date devices. (Would also have to be the same year, it is was struck twice and have doubled devices on both sides of the coin)

With all the other devices showing the same rotation. Re-punched date devices ended in 1908 U.S. coins.

Ok Thanks, You can Also see what I'm seeing correct? All though I agree with you on they should be raised, But Ive ran luke warm water over these to be sure I'm not jus seeing grime I can Possibly take a more clear image of the 1 and 5 I'm seeing

@ing, I vaguely see what you are talking about, but are you sure that this isn't a combination of damage and Pareidolia? The number 5 in particular is the wrong size to have come from the die at the mint.

I was jus making sure I'm not going cray here lol, thanks for all your guys input the 5 being there does not make sense at all I tried warm water to see if its dirt or grime.

I've seen faint markings in this area before on Washington quarters, could be the remnants of a die clash?
