I've had a few of these for years now. Can't remember where I got them. Am unable to find ANYTHING about them. Can anybody tell me what these are for sure?

My first thought was a machine shop project, but the quality is probably too high (looks like it came out of a real coin press?).

Next thought was something like a 50th anniversary medal, but it would have said 1947-1997 if that were the case, and the quality is probably too low for that.

I've got a former work colleague who graduated Iowa State's Engineering school in the late 1970s. I'll try to get a picture over to him and see if he's ever seen it.
