Hi all -

I have 3 coins with various countermarks. Anybody recognize the countermarks here? Is there a website that catalogs these? Thanks for any info.

was talking to some friends, it doesn't appear to be Arabic (at least they couldnt read it), they did suggest it might be a older form of Arabic but probably unlikely. I also checked with someone who spoke Urdu, since that also uses the same script, and it wasnt that either. There are a bunch of scripts on the Indian Subcontinent and nearby that use the arabic script. I will see if I can find anyone who speaks some other languages to help out.

Thanks for trying. Numista shows some similar countermark coins, but nothing loks exactly right. The search continues...

These are of a very recent fabrication....
This seller on ebay UK has shifted quite a quantity over the last few years.

He has been known to get them wrong, and stamp the stamps in the wrong order (ie the "older" stamp ends up on top of a new one)

Was applied to coins in Costa Rica in 1848.... Except that George V reigned 1911-1936

I started keeping a record of all these fakes that were put on the EIC and later rupees but gave up as there were so many.

The first in Arabic reads "partnership Germany year 1207". The second coin has the letter "s" twice in each countermark. In each countermark on the third coin are the letters "s" and "t" which (if joined), would spell sitt ("six").
