This is another of the odd early 40s S mint marks. There are actually 3 different mint marks that run. http://varietyvista.com/09a%20WQ%20...MMS00201.htm

The first three pictures are mine. John 1 it is a die chip but a totally different mint mark as well.

The normal MM is clearly smaller, look at the distance from the R. Also, the normal MM is more rounded. Nice find.

Or a Grease Fill on that area. When the grease was removed, then the mintmark would be normal again.

All 1941-S coins come with a small mintmark and a large mintmark.

Me I agree with the MMS-002 must see the markers in order to localize the Die number. Your case could be Die 1,2,7 or 8

Thanks everyone! It will go in my "one day" PCGS submission box! That box is filling up so hopefully send them in soon!

Sil as I was looking at these I did notice one with the mint mark in a different position. I feel that the die I posted is the most common of the bunch.
