Very odd looking to say the least. I would lean towards a deteriorated die but maybe in the ground for a bit too. Don't know for sure. I'd wait and let some other chime in before listing it.

Okay thanks for feedback, just starting back up. Running through some 1920-29 LWC for listings. This one has such a nice reverse I just don't know?

If it is Die Deterioration, the reverse die could have just been a fresher die.

Yes that would makes sense (no pun intended). I'm blessed with the eternal "no added value" finds in my bags and rolls. It's probably just a severe case of Die Deterioration? But I'll hold it tonight and see if other experts chime in with alternate conclusions.

Nothing else heard, guess I'll pull another 25S to photo for my listing until I can confirm nomenclature of this oddity.

Possible rust issue on the die that struck your coin. Not a plus for this coin.

Several of these are graded. No mention of a premium for these.

Just the condition of the coin. To me I view them as a problem coin, but others may think differently.

It is a form of Die Deterioration.
The later stages of 1924-s ddo-001 suffers similar though not the same deterioration.
