Just curious to see how others grade this. Seller images, currently being auctioned.

MS 62, maybe a 60, depending how it looks in hand. Some of the scratches could be contact in bag or cleaning.

I've only started looking at George VI fairly recently - the dollars are also new terrain for me. The key detail wear-wise seems to be the hair at the temple and immediately above the ear - these seem to be the highest points, yes? In which case, I see little or no wear on this guy. So, yes, this would be MS.
Against that backdrop, there is a fair number of little scratches and hacks in the open fields, including one at around 6:30 on the obverse that is likely visible without magnification. Though there's also obvious mint-lustre throughout. These bring it towards the low and of the Sheldon scale...maybe 62 though I don't really understand how you distinguish that from 60.
Given their size and weight, it seems to me that it would be difficult to find a dollar without significant bag marking. This is going to tend to take the eye appeal down on most coins. The real gems therefore (leaving aside issues like how rare they are to start with) are going to be those that miraculously escaped that sort of damage.
Curious to know whether this is how the rest of you look at these guys.

Lots of small dings and scratches, (many more than just for bag marking), but I don't see any visible wear on the highpoints.
MS-60 or 61.

Coin should sell for around MS60 money . In my opinion look for one with better eye appeal . Do not really like the reverse on this piece. Has some of that yellow cancer that cannot be removed! One thing to remember about 1948 Dollars. They are hardly rare , just cost money . Be patient , wait for a nicer one !

I would love to see a close-up or mag of the date, especially the 8, which doesn't look right. The '48's have been faked alot and many times show the fake by the 8. Just take a look at the 8's in the 10-15 that are on ebay now, as well as those "sold"..

To be clear, I'm not interested in buying it. I ran across it and thought it would be a good GTG. I have one that looks very similar.

Best I could do with the seller image. Looks like it may have taken a hit across the bottom loop of 8. It has the diagnostic die scratch across the inside of 9 loop (circled) which occurs on the "notched 4" reverse die I documented a few years ago on here. I think that would be difficult to fake. PCGS deemed it genuine.

I think that the 8 took a little hit as well. Things look OK now with the close-up and signs of a "ding".
