Hi CC,

I am not sure what these are. Are they uncirculated coins from a bank? Are they always uncirculated? Are they from a Federal reserve bank? Have they typically been searched by another person or probably not? I seen a couple for sale on ebay and I am not sure what I would be buying.

mean 100 years from the birth of the penny 1909. Was strike in four different designs. Less strike was the presidency.

That appears to be a roll of Lincoln cents prepared by a 3rd party coin distributor such as Loomis. It is labeled as the circulating commemorative distributed for the 2009 anniversary of the introduction of the Lincoln Cent.

There is no way to know from the photo of course the condition of the coins or if the roll even contains the cents it is labeled as. You would need to open it to be sure.

Can't ever be sure until you open them.

I went to the release ceremony for the 2009 Lincoln Formative Years (LP2) issue in Indiana. There was one for each of the 4 releases, each in a different location. After the ceremony, you could buy rolls of uncirculated cents. Since I dragged the family along, I ended up with 20 rolls. My rolls look pretty much exactly like these rolls, I even labeled them in a similar manner.

Yours are the first issue, LP1 - Lincoln Birthplace. It is possible they came from the release ceremony or they may have been acquired from a bank after the fact. The fact that they are labeled makes me think someone knew what was in the rolls and they are likely uncirculated. There's a good chance they have not been searched. Mine have not for example, they are still in the rolls when I purchased them at the release ceremony.

Of course, there's no way to find out for sure without opening them.

They sold a two roll set from the mint with a P/D mint in the box that year. But it looks like one of these were not this roll. Looks like the LP-1 Reverse roll. The ones from the mint had a different wrapper on them. But there are some DDR's on that design. (Not as many as the LP-2 reverses)

Thanks for the information. Sometimes coin collecting seems like gambling LOL. What I understand from your feedback is that this may not be a great buy or may be one. Possibly, it will have a MS67 or or greater or a great error on a really nice coin. Is that what most people do.... gamble sometimes?

All collectors have to take a gamble to find their treasure. Scuba divers, metal detectors, antique hunters, coin collectors....ect. Wasted day looking, buying unseen stuff, auctions, it is all a gamble. What you are doing by asking questions is the smart thing to do, it helps your odds.

More than likely they're true to label. 2009 was an interesting year for Lincoln to celebrate the 100 years of the Lincoln Cent. You can still find these in circulation - occasionally!

I don't know but I think there are more rolls of 09s kept by people than any other year.
