Great coin! That's a pretty neat die which would certainly be hard to spot on a blurry image. Well done!

Interesting fact I figured out years ago: So I figure they used a wrong year hub (1948) on this die first. Then note the correct hub (1949) Making these dies altered DDO's. There are three different die examples, but all are listed on the 'S' mint coins: http://www.varietyvista.com/01a%20L...201949-S.htmThis is my explanation of how this could have happened.

Very nice find. A 49 hubbed over a 48. I wonder if this occurred any time else?

Thanks for the comments and likes. It was the top of the 4 that I spotted first in the seller's images.
Coop, I meant to give you a shout-out and thank you for your theory about the overdate. It certainly makes a lot of sense especially since they did that with multiple dies and denominations during the 1940s. (1942/41 P&D Dime, 1943/1942 nickel, 1943S/1942S Cent, etc?)
In hand, on this example anyway, there may even be a slight line above the second 9, indicative of the initial 8. The line may be so light it may not add to the evidence but I'll have to see if I can get an image of it with my scope.

Here are a couple of images around the second 9. Not necessarily definitive but interesting and adds to the discussion if nothing else.

The locations on the mintmarks will show the differences.

Quote: The locations on the mintmarks will show the differences. I'm not sure I follow Coop. The differences in what? Are you saying the mintmark can be used to help determine this is a 1949s hubbed over a 1948S Or a 1949 (P) hubbed over a 1948S. Or a 1949 (P) hubbed over a 1948 (P) and then the S was added?(which could be an RPM also). Thanks again for your help.

Ah ... yes. Thanks. Any thoughts on the raised "line" above the second 9?
(I'm curious if it's showing up on other examples.)
