Creepy Jeffersons (2006-present) get my vote also, as well as the 2005 obverse design. Same also goes for the SBA - too easily confused for quarters, and the obverse and reverse don't relate to each other at all. I also find all of the eastern states' State Quarters uninspiring, and a special "ick" mention goes out to a couple of this year's quarter designs, especially Jovita Idar. Yuck!

Very interesting posts here! I especially the comparison of Ronald Reagen to Jack Nicholson!!! I will never be able to un-see that! Hysterical! In my opinion, the Sacagewea dollar is the ugliest coin. Contrary to most, I love the Susan B Anthony coins. Yes, her looks have much to be desired, but the strike and design are top notch, in my opinion.

For me at least, it has nothing to do with SBA being ugly or portrayed unflatteringly. It's that the size/color/composition of the coin make it too easily confused with another, already more-established denomination; and that she has nothing to do with the moon landing so continuing to use the same reverse as on the Ike dollar, as cool of a design as it is, doesn't seem to make coherent thematic sense.

I was about 5 years old when the SBAs came out. It was a scary experience to look at it. It had nothing to do with the size for me, just a creepy-looking SBA portrait that is the stuff of nightmares. I remember being thrilled when my dad gave me Ikes, though.

The shield reverse on the Lincoln Cent does not strike my fancy in any way.

The 2005 Jefferson nickel with side profile is horrible. Even my non-collector brother-in-law made disparaging comments about it. If you are going to put the buffalo on the reverse, bring that cool native american dude back on the obverse. Yeah, the Buffalo nickel is probably my favorite US coin design.

i have a dislike for most modern coins.. I prefer the coin designs prior to all the dead presidents, with one notable exception ( LWC).. I like LIBERTY on a coin, and an eagle on the reverse.. old school, I guess, but I like the older coin designs..

Re-designed bust on Washington quarter. Blech. (Also agree that Belgian 5 franc coin was terrible). But every colorized design is even lower on my list. They all look like paint by the numbers.

anything with prominent designer initials and, more recently, engraver's initials have begun cluttering designs too, who is next, the mint's press operators? if initials are needed, make them subtle, and tuck them along an edge like the modern VDB

Maybe it's just the Nazi associations, but I find the aluminium Vichy French coins rather nasty and as a kid on my first visit to France, when these were still current as 1 and 2 centimes to help out with small change, I found the axe somewhat scary:

I just never put the two together. Geesh! Very interesting. Thanks for posting! I have a couple of those coins. My Dad must have picked them up when he was there in WWII. I always wondered what the double axe represented but, didn't take the time to check. Now I have. I agree...it does represent a nastier time for France.

I hate any type of low denomination Euro's. I will not collect them. Each country involved seems to have lost their coin identity...IMO.
I dislike the reverse designs of Edward VII florins and the 1940 NZ half Crown reverse (with any sort of wear, the woman's face resembles a batman mask....IMO)
