Hello! Just joined so forgive any errors. I've just started going through the coin books of the inherited collection and have a page of these Peace dollars. There are more, as well as Morgan dollars. I've tried researching, but end up going down and getting lost in so many rabbit holes. Where do you begin to find out what you have in order to sell it— but without getting taken advantage of? I am learning, and am very good at comparative image analysis, so I can see the differences, but only if I know what to look for. But how do you keep track of each coin and its parameters? Any help is appreciated!

to the Community! You have found a good place to start by asking questions here on this forum. Take your time and do not make hasty uninformed decisions selling your coins. You only get to sell them once! Avoid any urges to clean, or by trying to make your coins "look" better. Many a collection of coins has been ruined and devalued by cleaning and/or polishing. DON'T DO IT! Post pictures of each coin you have questions about in a single thread. Multiple coins in a single thread leads to confusion. We look forward to helping you!

to the CCF I suggest you need a reference book to guide your search through those coins. Purchase a 2023 version of the Red Book and review the sections on Morgan and Peace dollars. Then review photos of grading the coins -sites such as PCGS have reasonable photo grading guides. The combination of both skills/knowledge will allow you to know exactly what you have and relative value. Of course - @westernsky is correct that you can always post photos here and our experts will help.

Alrighty! Purchased the Red Book and bookmarked the sites. I'll keep reading up on grading and see if I can make some decent assessments then will post one here to see how I did. Thanks !

To begin with, I would make a list of the coins that you have, I think an excel spreadsheet would be a good option. Later you will be able to evaluate each coin separately and assign it a letter grade in the same table.

You could try using Photograde to give you a visual estimate for each coin. Keep a look-out for High Relief ones. Finding HR is easier than it sounds. Review each coin individually and take your time. There are good suggestions here on your post already!
You're always welcome to post photos of each coin (one at a time) and folks will be happy to help you.

The page of the 1921 Morgan and 8 Peace dollars are common dates that appear to be circulated. The value for each coin is going to be silver melt plus a small premium.

The premiums on circulated Morgans/Peace have gone higher the last few years, good if a seller, not good if a buyer. The sold listings on ebay show current prices. My LCS currently buys cull Morgan/Peace for $27, sells for $32. Better grades sell for more obviously, AU and higher especially. Hard to tell without close up pics but looks like a couple could be AU.

The top right coin in your page pictured with 9 coins is a 1921 Peace dollar and is worth way above melt value. It appears to have some rim bumps but would be a "hole filler" for someone out in Coinland! You have a good start there!

Quote:The top right coin in your page pictured with 9 coins is a 1921 Peace dollar and is worth way above melt value. If indeed that is a 1921...I agree. But...I think it's a 1924...? Are there other coins that you also have...? We love pics! smat

The coin in the top right slot looked like a 1924. The image is small, so maybe it is a 21.

hard to tell from the blurry picture. Still looks like a damaged possible 1924 to me. One way to solve the mystery is to show the reverse. The 1921 will have 3 rays below the ON of "ONE", The 1924 will only have two rays at that location.
