Very rough go of it in a parking lot--at a minimum, I sense there's no value beyond 1 cent with this one.

It is not a split planchet and this could not have happened during the striking of the coin. PMDFrom your description it sounds like an acid coin.

yes a parking lot coin, probably had come of the coin ground right off and made it thinner and a heck of a lot lighter too.

Someone dropped coin down a volcano then blasted into outer space, was then caught by gravity and got stuck onto a meteor. Then, it fell back to earth and landed on parking lot as hundreds of cars ran over it. If only coins could tell us what adventures they have been on.

Seeing how the diameter of the coin in question exceeds the diameter of what I presume is a normal strike, that should eliminate the possibility of a split planchet. As the rims are still discernable and all corresponding high points seem to be equally worn, I would definitely say, this is a messed up cent. I hope I am wrong, and I will have learned.

Thinner, smaller in diameter, and lighter in weight make this one an acid-dipped coin that has seen the active area of a parking lot.
(At least it's copper with no zinc.)

Damaged is never a good thing for a coin. It is just a face value coin, that can still do its job, but it was normal when it was struck. Now it just an aged coin that was damaged.
