Get a safe deposit box at the bank. If you need to look at the coins or do something with the coins take them out, but if you dont need them at the moment the safest place to keep them is at the bank in a safe deposit box.
Rest in Peace

Label it "bent screws and rounded-off bolts". Pack the bottom part of the box with your valuable coins, lay a divider across the top of them, and then on top pack ... well, you know.

Someone one time mentioned labeling the mailing carton "machine parts" when he sent computer components through the mail. Although he did pack the components well in foam peanuts and such, his reasoning was that no one would actually try to damage solid pieces.

My only paranoia about storing stuff at home is potential fire damage while I'm gone. Otherwise, there's dozens of ways to hide them in plain sight:

- Hollow out a book in your bookcase

- False bottom on an end table

- In a stacked pan in your kitchen

- Underneath the sofa

- In the pockets of suits hanging in the closet

- Inside a "spare" pillow on the bed

You're only limited by your creativity.

no doubt--like some Barney/Scooge McDuck hybrid.

I've also heard of people storing valuables in those plastic kitty litter tubs. Not sure I'd go there, lol.

Seriously though, I keep all my valuable coins in a safe deposit box at my bank. The only coins I keep at home are the ones I plan on moving soon either here or on ebay. I have one of those dictionary safes on my bookshelf and also a CD safe in with my CD's that's hollowed out. You can't even tell. Blends in.

I will share one... and only one; (>>>edit... removed cuz it's such a good idea!) Now never mention this again, and don't tell people where you live or that you collect anything, etc. etc.

I have since been renting commercial space in a large bank safe. The bank closed and "lockers" are being rented by the building owner... to businesses in the building, or whoever.

Pillow case=bad idea. Thieves use them to haul off loot. In a CD=bad idea. Thieves will take all your CDs. Pockets of clothing, end tables, etc. If it can be picked up, I don't think it's a great idea.
What me paranoid? The security industry is picking up in this time of recession.

One other thing, if I came home to a house in flames... I would go into despair. Any coins you might have can be replaced and if properly stored would survive a fire and if not, still be worth bullion. So much more would be at stake that you can't squirrel away... cuz that ain't living.

You could label the box, cotton balls, and then have it full of cotton balls with the gold on the bottom.

It should be safe down at your bank in a Safety Deposit Box !!......then you don't need to worry about the "label" or security of your GOLD coins !!.....
Protecting something like "gold" with something like a "label"....is not something I'd put a lot of trust in !>.....
