@ker, it looks to me like some of that is due to the coin being struck by a tired die as you noted. Some may be circulation flattening too.

Looks like a combination of deterioration and Machine Doubling. Either "slide" or "push", MD.

The first clue? Note on the date area. See the striation lines? These are caused by die movement post strike. So it is Machine Doubling when you see those striation lines on the devices.

These are used in forensics to Identify the edges of knives. So the metal to metal contact and slide creates these lines on an altered device on coins. That is what we are seeing on the date area on your coin. Just a spender.
