Hi everyone, When putting my coins into flips, I do not staple them. I put a small strip of tape on one open end and put them into the slots to avoid movement. The reason I do this, is that I like to reuse the same flip (without damage) if I decide to remove the coin to examine it clearly, which I do more often than I probably should? I am sure there's a good reason why most use 4 staples, but I'm not aware of it. Any advice on this is welcomed!

I use three staples and flatten them down. If you use tape make sure it is "coin friendly",no harmful out gassing. Why are your coins all rotated oddly? John1

I see tape on more than one edge.

Taping the edges may not keep the sides close enough together, allowing the coin to slip out of the opening (like the 1939 and 1956).

Hi John1. It's probably because I take them out of the flips often and try to avoid touching the coins by slipping them into the 2x2. I leave them where they land and I guess that's the result. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I rarely look at the whole page. I usually dive into individual coins. But now, I won't be able to un-see it! LOL! Will take me some extra time. Grrrrrr!!!! Lol! As for the tape, it is nowhere near the coin. It's only at the top or 2 sides of the 2X2. Is there a problem with manipulating and removing the coins from the flips? Exposure to the air, atmosphere? Thanks

@jess, your coins should be enjoyed in the way that you want. If they have been circulated some, and you are careful when you handle them, then of course taking them out of the 2x2 is totally fine, especially in a relatively low-humidity environment like Canada. However, if you have been eating Cheetos in between placing fingerprints on your proof coins, then probably best to leave them in their 2x2s and staple them shut. I personally rarely remove my coins from their protective 2x2s except to photograph and weigh them.

I picked up the Max Hd-11Flk (Black) Vaimo Stapler flat clinch model which is a bit more compact than the full size Max HD-50DF so was easier to bring it with me. It came with 1 box of staples but can get more obviously. https://www.amazon.com/Max-Hd-11Flk.../B0088TKTO2/ Flat Clinch means it flattens the staples but actually uses smaller staples that wont cause issues potentially like normal ones. saflips might work for you as they are double pocket holders where you can place a cardboard insert in one with information. The saflips also are at littleton if you cant find them. The saflips I use because I had many coins I needed to pull out a few times for photos or rechecking for error or variety and was easier than using a MAX USA CORP. RZ-F staple remover for the flat clinch staples or cut them off to open and use a new 2x2 afterwards. I also keep some for sending in coins for grading even if not using them for storage. So perhaps using the 2x2s when you'll not be opening them shortly and the saflips for temp holding. Example without the cardboard inserts https://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/pr...ips-2x2.htmlYou can also try one pack of Supersafe brand Self Seal Flips - Assorted (this one has different sizes in one cheap pack unless you are working with all one coin size (at littleton coin is actually good priced for some reason as many of their product seems overpriced) and sold elsewhere and giving your thoughts here on them. These come in different sizes and dont require stapling so you would cut them to open https://www.littletoncoin.com/shop/...alogId=29555

If you are going to keep on removing them then I recommend saflips over 2x2. John1

I also take my coins out of the 2x2 on occasion. I use 3 staples, but when removing them I use mini needle-nose pliers to raise the prongs of the staples (usually I just remove 2), and then it pulls right out without doing any damage to the 2x2. Then, I re-staple the holder when I'm finished. I do it enough that I can usually get the staple back in the same holes, or at least very close. Quote: I use three staples and flatten them down. I got tired of flattening staples, so finally several years ago I got a flat clinch stapler on Amazon for about $10. Works great and saves a bit of time.
