It does have an attractive circulated cameo look but the damage at 12:00 makes it a game breaker for a serious collector. Us armatures may like it for the age and type factor on a budget.

For you, would that coin be a space filler, i.e., a temporary purchase? If so, then "no", don't buy this one. That one will still cost you in the low 4-figure range. Save the money and wait to buy one that you'll be happy to have as a permanent addition to your collection.

It depends on how much they want for it. It would look good in a belt buckle for under $1000. I can't see it being worth much more than that.

I like it, it's got a nice look, good color and detail, it just has that gouge up top. If you are doing a type set and enjoy pondering the rugged history of 'where has it been' then this would be a great coin. And contrary to what other say, these are trivially easy to sell. Put them on ebay with no reserve, and it will get tons of bids up to a number that might surprise you. Your job is to look at other sales and figure out what that number might be. Just be sure it is authentic, there are more and more fakes flooding the market.

I think it's a beauty. Really a nice looking dollar with great details. I think even with its issues it's still worth 3 or 4k.

Great looking coin, always depends on the price. I don't quite understand people turn immediately down damage, you always ask for a price first.

Man is asking for 1200e to buy , which I think is too much , but it's a beatiful coin , it's got that look of that old coin that has been circulating for past 200 years

$1200 is fair for a VF with damage and natural color. Offer $1000 and haggle. Still think it belongs in a belt buckle.

If I had the bread to do so, I would buy the coin and then pay a restoration expert to fix the notch.

Compare this holed VG mess which is the cheapest on ebay right now at twice the price. Flowing hair dollars aren't scarce, but they also aren't cheap. I like the buyer's statement that it only has a small hole....a disgrace to your belt.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/175668075899

Personally I would never buy one of these unless it was authenticated.

I stand by my estimate at 3 to 4 k. These are not cheap. A VF without details or damage would be $10,000 or so. 1200 sounds like a steal to me.
