I know this isn't a high value coin at all. Just trying to etablish an idea of grade to go off of for the rest I have. I thought this one was pretty so I'm using it as an example. Would love to learn more about copper. There are also a lot of damaged coins and I wonder if they are worth trying to save. Corrosion and verdigris mainly.
Thanks

Maybe VF20. I would like to see a stronger "Liberty" and fewer scratches but, overall it's a nice Indian. Which, if you aren't aware, is Lady Liberty with a Headdress.

Keeper!

Looks AU but also looks like someone put this coin in a frying pan to tone it.

Haha, I would have loved to see my great grandfather frying this up on the stove! As it was, I think the toning is from an old cardboard album folder. But who knows what it went through before the 1960's! Others I have are purple, some similar to this one, some with red staining and some obvious green damage. But VF20-AU details is quite the range and solidifies I know nothing about grading copper.

Interesting example. I could see a very strong VF20.

I can't really see the details but it looks like there is enough in the feathers and letters to grade in the upper half. And the wreath on reverse has lots of detail also. Grading from pictures is not perfect and definitely isn't like looking at a coin in your hands.

I'd say XF-45.

I'm on board with XF-45 since there appear to be traces of remaining luster. Album toning is possible, but could also be re-toned after an old cleaning.
I'd like to see some photos with the cent removed from the 2X2.

XF40 details - cleaned
The little luster that is apparent appears disrupted and coin has retoned.

any damaged coin and corroded, unless keys, dont really have any collector value. verdigris can be removed however you never know whats under it. many times it has bored into the surfaces causing damage. the best thing I found to remove it is Verdicare which can be found online. verdicare will not detail a coin but will preserve the coin afterwards.

the 02 posted looks XF details. old cleaning so I'm with coinfrog

I'm not a great grader but I think this is about a VF35. Photograde is a pretty good tool (to augment written descriptions, not to stand alone). https://www.PCGS.com/photograde#/Indian/Grades
