1949 S Nickel -Any Thoughts About Marks Near And Under 9?

I know the condition of this 1949S nickel is horrific. Still, I am trying to determine what the marks next to and underneath the 9 are. It looks like a minting error, but not sure. Any thoughts are appreciated .

those white marks look like scratches in the toning

OK yes that definitely helps. Are you talking about the whitish linear marks, including the three that together form a rough triangle? If so, these looks like scratches in the dark toning to me. If done purposefully, they may be called graffiti, but in any case would count as damage.

I am actually referring to the 90 degree angle mark next to the nine and the pointed oval under rhe 9

As Dearborn says, those are still just scratches on the dark toning of this coin. You have similar scratches all over this coin. They only stand out because the toning is so dark, as if it had been buried or exposed to something corrosive a long time ago.

The shapes/placement of the ones you reference seem odd, but you could say that about many of the other scratches.

@miz, ok thank you for that additional explanation. I'm pretty sure that I understand now and would confirm that those marks are areas where the dark toning has been scraped off the surface of this nickel. I've indicated some of these linear areas in red below:
