So I just came into possession of an awesome collection of Peace dollars. They we're all graded a long time ago (need to do some more research to get exact dates), and they are all currently graded at an MS62. Looking at them, I think I could get them regraded to at least a 65, possibly higher. My question is, does anyone have experience getting previously graded coins re-graded? I'm also considering the possibility of getting these cleaned by the grading service, which I've never done.

Some pictures of the best ones would be cool. I've never had a coin graded so I can't answer your question but I know people will have comments I'm sure.

Cracking out coins and resubmitting is fairly common, but you just have to keep in mind the total cost of the regrading and shipping versus any potential return on a possible bump in grade. Getting a 3-point plus bump in grade may be a bit optimistic, but some pictures would enable us to give some real advice. Regarding conservation by the grading services, I don't personally have any experience with that but I know there are others on the forum who do. Again, pictures of the coins in question would be very useful.

I have a full set of Peace dollars. Going from MS62 (graded) to MS 65 is a stretch. Does it happen? Yes once in a while but rarely. For MS65 you are looking at a GEM coin which means no distracting marks and a very clean strike. Post some pictures but its doubtful many if any will go from MS62 to MS 65.

Been a busy day. I'm going to really look through them tonight and try to upload some photos! Thanks for being so interested, I don't personally know anyone that gets as excited about coins so this is really great.

If they were already graded a long time ago, it seems like you'd have a reason to have a TPG conserve them now. Is there a reason? If so, ANACS is by far the cheapest - $59 flat rate per 20 coin submission and they decide which coins merit it. NGC and PCGS charge a % of each coin's value, which could be quite expensive. ANACS did a great job on mine and before/after pics of one are in this thread http://goccf.com/t/163668&whichpage=2I agree with the above that bumping from 62 to 65 is a stretch. Conservation, in theory at least, isn't going to improve the grade.

Appears that the Peace dollar is in an older ANACS soapbox holder. Those are usually accurately graded from my experience. The morgan is an AU coin.

From the hologram, it's ANACS under Amos Press ownership towards the middle-late period. That would be early 1990s market grading (vs. the technical grading of the ANA ownership period). With today's better understanding of strike weakness and with gradeflation, I'd say MS63 with a shot at MS64 but not MS65.

first I dont believe in slabbing I think its a waste of money. the Peace dollar may upgrade a tad as it was probably a 63 coin but downgraded due to eye appeal, there is only about a $40 retail difference between a 62 and 64 so whats the cost of shipping, insurance, regrading and conservation? whats it buying you? the morgan looks mid to high AU and not worth slabbing. imo there are only two reasons to slab 1. you have a rarer coin that you want authenticated and conserved 2. you are planning on selling the coin and it has a value more than $150

Since the one you posted is already ANACS, it's not going to cost you that much to go to ANACS with all of them if you have 10 or more. Their monthly special is $129 for 10 coins valued less than $500 each, $13 each additional coin. Depending on value the shipping charge would be around $50. If there's a show close to you, submit in person and save the cost of shipping to ANACS. Toss in the conservation for $59 and if you did 20 coins your total is $368 = $18.40 per coin.
Of course, your 1922 is only worth $60 retail so it's not really worth sinking even $18 into it, but that's up to you. It might be a fun experiment.

Morgans are not Peace dollars. Also the eye appeal on your Peace dollar really kills any value. It would need to get dipped to remove all that ugly toning. I don't believe the coins would merit regrading.

There's zero chance these will regrade to gem Coins.
I'm genuinely curious, why do you believe these will upgrade to a 65 minimum, possibly higher?

@Linkthesink, I appreciate your excitement about your recent collection, congrats!.
As others have noted above these coins are not worth regrading. I would suggest that they may be worth more in the older ANACS holders than they will ever be in a new PCGS / NGC / ANACS holder.
