AU-58 - MS-61
Would need to see in person.

Quote: AU-58 - MS-61 I see obvious circulation rub on the highpoints so there is no way this is an MS-anything coin. I can see AU50 to AU53. Nice original surfaces.

I'll say AU-58. I really can't see any wear.

Obviously Indian Head cents aren't your strong point, saying xf- low au is laughable. Coin Frog and I are right, there's no "obvious" wear.

AU53, nice rev die cracks & die chip at K5 This coin has superb eye appeal and is perfectly original. 1891 was an interesting year for IHC variety hunters, with DDR's, DDO's, MPD's, RPD's, and the rest of the IHC alphabet soup all to be found by those with keen eyes and a bit of patience.

I see that we're all over the place with our grades! Hmmm I've been teetering around an XF-45 and low range AU. I too settled on AU50 to AU53. Definitely not Mint State. It's a lovely IHC and a good keeper!

Anywhere from AU58 to MS62 . Very pleasing and original coin ! Needs to be examined in hand for a proper evaluation! Great coin for a type set!

It's unfortunate the majority of people echo what others say.
The majority this time is wrong, this I am certain.
4 diamonds clearly cut no wear.
Reverse Shield completely separated.
Look at the obvious luster.
There's unc coins that don't exhibit these strong of features, let alone all 3.
It does not work the other way around though.
Coins showing all these features do not equate to xf or low au, ever.
This is not low au, and the thought of xf is flat out silly.

@NumismaticsFTW, your right to have an opinion is well-respected here, but I would ask that you please refrain from personal attacks. I've been collecting, buying and selling coins for the better part of 35 years, and am not "echoing" anything. My grade opinion is based on my honest evaluation of the coin based on the photos provided. I've seen enough AU and Unc BN-RB-RD Indian Head cents in ANACS, NGC and PCGS holders to have a reasonably informed opinion as to whether or not this coin would grade AU58 if submitted for certification to one of those services, and my opinion is that it exhibits just enough wear and loss of luster that it would be more likely to end up in an AU53 holder, or even AU55 if the coin is a bit more lustrous in-hand than these photos show. But no matter how many times I look at it, I can't get it to 58.

With respect, disagree. This coin may have changed hands a few times, or perhaps was put aside new and mishandled at bit over the years, but it certainly would not be graded less than AU-58 in my opinion.

I blew this coin up to take a much closer look. There are actually 3 die cracks on the reverse, 1 deep "scratch" and a few minor one's on the obverse and several on the reverse. There is atleast 1 tiny rim ding and the top of the first 2-3 feathers clearly have slight wear. The darkened high spots could be bag marks/wear. For those, self inspected reasons, I stand by my low AU estimate. If that coin is only seen by a TPG with a 10x loupe, it will probably grade a bit higher. HumblePie, it's still a lovely coin! Noone cares for a know-it-all but, we all appreciate one another's observations and estimates, even if they come off as being a bit strong and unnecessarily stated.
