Agree, looks like some sort of foreign substance adhering to the coin.

I'm trying to get a grasp of this coin - are these anomalies incuse or raised? The lighting does not help in determining this.

Suggest giving the coin a long soak in 100% acetone. Result might narrow down what's happening.

Looks like some acid type material was on this coin.

The last picture makes me think the areas are incuse. I'm on team corrosion for this coin.

to the CCF! I think you may be on track with the coin being 'eaten.' If these areas are incuse, it looks like damage from an acidic substance. It could be a Cupholder Coin as noted above. Just Post Mint Damage, or PMD.

It took more than being in a cup holder to eat away this much metal. Some kind of acid spilled onto it.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm fairly new to collecting and I appreciate having you all and this forum to turn to for knowledge. I like coins like this. They're examples of what not to hang onto or waste time on.

to the CCF A bit of photo overload - we need single in-focus and cropped photos of both sides of the coin and at most a few detail shots. Quote: I appreciate having you all and this forum to turn to for knowledge Pleased to be of help.
