Ladies and Gentlemen of our northern neighbours, I have for your inspection A 1999 cent which was not easy to take a pic of. The coin is very bright (it looks brassy) of Queen Elizabeth the second, with fields looking hammered on the obverse and reverse. The Queen has a large crown and wearing a pearl necklace, and is a hansome design. Please take a look and let me know your thoughts and as always regards!

I think the texture is a plating issue. https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coin...nt-1990-2003

It's a spender.
Fortunately for you, you live in a country where you might be able to do that.
They no longer circulate here.

I was curious about the fields having the hammered look! Very tough coin to picture.

Definately no material on surface, I think it is part of the strike.

It's a plating issue. These have been discussed more than once on here. Search the archives. It's copper plated zinc and just a poor plating job by the mint. Over 1 billion minted.

As stated this is a finish/plating issue within the RCM. This was most prevalent from 1998-2002.
