I would like to hear some reasons that ya'll collect. Examples: -Personal Gain -$$$$$ -Nothing better to do -To throw at people from tall buildings -Inherited some coins -Coins don't argue back
I was going to make this a poll, but I know everyone has there unique reasons.

I used to collect as a kid and it fell by the wayside somewhere around high school when all of a sudden I noticed there were GIRLS there! Any way I now have a few months with nothing to do (recent surgery) and decided to give it another go. It has really refueled my interest in coins and it's turning out to be a better way to invest my money...

I am a collector at heart and if given the possibility I'd collect a lot of other stuff. But for some unknown reasons only coins stood the test of time. If I was to expand my interests, which I can't due to financial reasons, I'd go for currency.

I guess I could answer my own question. LOL! I do it for the hunt and the history. I am a big time hunter and now in the off season I got something else to hunt. It's like bowhuntin and a big 8 point walkin up to your stand, but he is just out of range. I haven't got the "big" coin yet but I know its out there. I know how both of ya feel. I haven't worked in almost 6 years due to an accident at work. I know what its like to have "limited income". dreamstones, what did you have surgery on? If you don't mind tellin.

I have always had a passion for coins. I can't explain it. Just love coins Kind of like Jay Leno and his cars. Try to put those in a safe deposit box!

I used to collect sports cards when I was young so I guess the itch to collect carried over to coins. I think its the thrill of the hunt and the sense of accomplishment when a set is completed. I also collect to pass my coins down to my son a long time from now ;) I also love the looks/art of most coins and a set put together is beautiful. Also, keeps me busy and keeps me out of trouble. :)

After 20+ years of putting 'interesting' old coins that I found in circulation into lockboxes and never looking at them again, I finally decided it was time to appreciate what I had collected!

I like the history that every coin tells. Whether it is an emperor on an ancient Roman Coin or a scene on a commemorative piece, Every coin tells a story.

I think there are two kinds of people, those who collect and those who don't. Those who collect usually have some appreciation for art, history, nature, detail and are interested in the unusual. They are the nostalgic kind. They associate fond memories with things from those times. Collector type people never seem to get bored. The other kind of people, well they seem to live more in the here and now. Although they might invest in coins, they don't seem to have any real passion for them. They are just planning for a later here and now. Why do I collect coins? I guess I am more of the latter type. I also have quite a few other collections. I like almost anything that is odd and unusual and hard to find. Heck I even collect stuff like hardware and marbles. I like stuff that stimulates my brain and my eyes. A lot of glassware I have is beautiful to look at. My old toy trucks and cars remind me of being a kid. Coins are a great study, there are endless possibilities of how and what to collect and of all the collectibles, I think they can require the most use of brain cells.

I think that others on this forum should know and appreciate the reasons ya'll do this. If some of ya want to make a joke of it, i'd rather ya do it on a different thread. The reason I started this topic is that collecting coins was the furthest thing from my mind. I never pictured myself getting into this so much. Heck, used to love bars, customizing my trucks, fishing, hunting, truck shows, race tracks. But now, I don't think I can ever look at any coin the same again. And I actually am lovin it . Great stories so far ya'll!

Nice to see some passion in you Justin. The jokes that were made are merely lighted hearted and really meant nothing. You'll find that is the way the folks are around here. Well except for Super Dave there is no real explanation for him! . Just don't touch his coins he may bite! As for me I like the study, knowledge, history, and of course the hunt!
