Look on the edge of the coin. They put it there on a number of the one dollar coins including that one.

Yes, don't forget about the third side of a coin!

It's a modern US Sacagawea dollar coin. The 'gold' color is a result of the base metal clad alloy being mainly copper, zinc and magnesium. There is no gold in this coin.

Not gold, spend it if you find a cashier that recognizes it as a dollar.

Quote: just wasn't sure why it didn't look like the rest I had Sacagawea dollars were produced from 2000 through 2008. They have an eagle reverse and Sacagawea, the date and mint mark on the obverse. Native American dollars have been produced since 2009. Sacagawea still appears on the obverse, and the reverse design celebrates either an individual or group of native Americans The date and mint mark appear on the edge of the coin.

Um, no Manganese - symbol Mn and atomic number 25 is a hard, brittle, silvery metal, often found in minerals in combination with iron. Magnesium - symbol Mg and atomic number 12 is a shiny gray metal with low density, low melting point, and high chemical reactivity.

Subsequent dollar coin issues — the Native American series of 2009 to date and the American Innovation Series of 2018 to date — also retained the use of edge inscriptions, to the detriment of the coins' appearances according to this persons view in the article and some here on the forum. The stark portrayals of Sacagawea on the Native American dollars and the Statue of Liberty on the American Innovation Dollars do not work. Without a date, Mint mark or motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, the obverses look unfinished, like cheap medals. Both series would look better with the standard inscriptions moved from the edges to the obverses https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...inscriptionsIf you look on places like ebay, the Wampanoag Treaty Native American dollar has been offered by those who dont know as being from 1621 The composition selected for the sacagawea included a cladding of manganese brass (containing about 77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, and 4% nickel) over a pure copper core. This composition was chosen because it would give the coin a distinctive golden color while being electromagnetically identical to its predecessor, the copper-nickel Susan B. Anthony dollar. Specifications for the American Innovation $1 Coins and Native American $1 Coins are the same. Manganese-Brass = 88.5% Cu 6% Zn 3.5% Mn 2% Ni
