I'm at a solid VG-08, may get the key date bump though graded. I think you'd be very lucky to get $850. I'd put raw value closer to $700+/-. IMO
Edit: Nice example!

1877's are on the move price wise. We'll see what happens. It's not taking up much space on my desk.

VG-8 for me. Wish my budget would allow for this. I still need this and the 09 S to complete my set.

the difference in value from an 8 to a 10 is worth getting the coin professionally graded and would command more just because its slabbed. I dont slab coins but in this case it may be worth it for you to do so. the only consideration on the grade is if whomever is grading the coin sees wear or strike and takes strike into consideration in the grade.
slab a coin if one of the following is true
1. its a rare coin and you want to preserve it 2. it has a value of over $150 and you are looking to sell it

I was in the same position late last year when I got an opportunity to buy a 1909-S from a CCF member. That just left the 1877 hole, which was filled this January from a lucky ebay find (although mine grades considerably lower at AG03).

Thanks Jbuck, I remember not too long ago when you bought that slabbed 09 S for crack out. That looked like a decent coin. I think that I would be more inclined to pursue the 09 s first since the mintage is lower. Personally I would consider the 09S as THE key and the 77 as the second key due to the mintages. Thanks for your encouragement!

There is evidence that the mintage number on the 1877s is inflated, considering that only one reverse die has been demonstrated as striking genuine coins and said die would show signs of deterioration after striking that many coins, however, no genuine 1877 cents show evidence of Die Deterioration on the reverse.

VG8, choice in the grade. This coin would sell super fast, it's a beautiful problem-free circulated key date coin. Myself (and many others) would love to have this for an upgrade.
I still need a 1909-S, finding a problem-free lower grade (VG-F) circulated example at a price that's not ridiculously overinflated is exceptionally tough.

I couldn't get anyone to bid at 850 so I did a buy it now/best offer and ended up taking an 875.00 offer. The guy I sold it to sells slabbed coins so I'm sure we will all find out what it ends up grading. I imagine he will end up selling it north of a thousand.
