Excellent specimen.
This one may be bolder but the one in the link sure is neat with the filled letters "right there" for easy comparison.

Wow, dropped grease fills are neat and this is a great example! Wish there was a full coin photo though.

OK .. I must admit that I have never heard of a dropped character. Can someone please explain this error to me and how it occurs? thanks

Very nice 'dropped letter' @A1agrl: What happens is that grease fills up a die (a letter in this case) and it can dry out and harden. then at some point it (the grease) falls out of the die and either lands on the planchet or get stuck to a different location on the die. then when the die comes down the hardened grease will act as a part of the die and make an impression of hte 'dropped letter' https://www.error-ref.com/?s=dropped+letter

Just to add.. .they can be oriented correctly or backwards depending on how the dropped hardened grease falls.

Thanks for posting the image. These help give us some idea of just how hard the imbedded grease/debris can get.
