I've learned my lesson. So I bought this Morgan dollar at a Flea Market long time ago, but paid no where near for it like I did the 1800 dollar. Now I'm questioning if it's real. It's the exact same size as several others I have. It does not stick to a Magnet, and it weighs 26 grams, so .7 grams shy, but I've read that could be from wear over the years. How else can I judge if this is real. How would you know before buying it at a flea market? Any hobby I know cost money in materials and a learning curve. The problem is not knowing what one doesn't know.

The toning is similar to toning I have seen on other coins that are known Chinese counterfeits. Just that toning raises huge red flags in my book.
Take it to several local brink and mortar coin dealers and get their opinions. You are better off learning at a local coin shop than at a local flea mkt. Build a relationship with a local dealer. You can learn pretty quick that way.
So, my best advice is don't throw hard earned money at coins until you have a better feel of what you are buying and whom you are buying it from.

Thanks, as I've said, I've purchased coins over the years, but just recently delved deep into it. This one I have no idea when I got it. As for a Dealer, the closest dealer to me would be about 35 miles away, so not a trip I can make often. I live in small town USA. LOL. But I definitely learning to ask better questions before any more purchases are going to be made.

The date digits look weird and the mint mark placement doesn't look like any identified VAMs as far as I can tell. As mentioned, the toning looks off and common to the China wave coins. I say fake.

When you say "Date is Off" can you be more specific so I better understand what to look for.

It does have a suspicious look, but the date position and mintmark are very close to a VAM-6. I think the CC is a tad too high, so I'm leaning towards fake. I would say a flea market is probably one of the worst places to go if you're looking for genuine Morgans...

That's a good point about flea markets. I actually don't go to those looking specifically for anything. But flea markets, and yard sales, and peddlers shops are fun to walk through and usually there's a coin stand somewhere. So it helps the more I learn about what to look for.

Went to the NGC website and they said this is faked a lot. The pictures there show it is most probably a fake. My vote is fake, sorry.

Westernsky, Nailed it..... I Too Agree, The Coloring, the Hue is a Classic Fake China Vision. A Chalky Look, I also collect some China fake Coins, ( Mostly made There ). They Look Identical.... They are Collectible Too.... Excellent Experience Here, Also VamsforMoney, Great Identification of the Known VAMS Too.... Well Done,
