It all depends on condition and rarity. However, a very common circulated Wheat cent like this one, with mintage around 750 million, is probably only worth a few cents as was already mentioned. Still a very neat find if you found it in circulation, however!

As noted, only a few cents. You can find them for sale in bulk (1000-5000+) for about 7¢ to 9¢ per coin on many online coin wholesale sites. This is for common date, average circulated examples.

I usually have 10 or 20 common date Lincoln Wheat Cents mixed in with my change. I'm not going to worry about the value over face, but I do like the though of a kid searching their change and getting excited about finding them. Another collector in the making!

Yes for late-date well circulated examples 3x to 5x face value is about right. Branch mints are on the higher side of that range.

I know it's heretical to say, but it's just a spender to me. No way I'm hauling around common wheat cents for an insignificant potential melt premium.

Agree with the general thrust--about 3-6 cents in this case. It is a cool find, it just won't get one a beachfront property on Lake Tahoe.

I agree, Coinfrog. I still get a bit of a thrill finding an older coin in circulation, but unless it's silver it typically goes back out into the wild...

Total melt value today is $0.03.

» There are 0.0065 pounds of copper and 0.0003 pounds of zinc in $.01 face value of copper cent(s).

» A roll of copper cent(s) has 50 coins and is valued at $1.27 when copper is at $3.8527 / lb and zinc at $1.1115 / lb (exact value is $1.2737913107213).

However as mentioned there are premiums when selling so typically higher than that price just as silver 90% are getting harder to buy and paying more than its value.

Otherwise start by looking at a guide such as here to see if a particular coin might have an increased value when condition is a bit better or is rare. That guide says at least 6 cents in the lowest good condition.
http://m.numismedia.com/rarecoinprices.htm You can also use the Red Book as a starting base guide. Beyond that there are errors and varieties on certain coins such as found in the book strike it rich with pocket change which has some of them to look for (great for beginners).
