Just Joined. Long .time collector 60 + years. Completed Large cent collection yesterday finally. Only missing 1793 Liberty Cap. Probably will remain missing. Have others reached this point?

Very nice work @mink and welcome to CCF. I'd love to see a pic of your 1799 cent as that is one of them that I'm missing and I'm now focused elsewhere on my collecting.

to the CCF, Mink. Congrats on the set.

@Mink .... Did you assemble the set with any particular attention to grade? Or, would an identifiable coin in any condition suffice? How did you house the set? Did you ever exhibit it at a show and/or club meeting?

I too was long into the big coppers, acquiring a few NC varieties along the way. I fell short of owning a Liberty Cap and a Chain though, so I opted to change my goal. I decided to focus more on assembling a year set of large cents; this, but with one provision. Every coin has to be counterstamped with an attributed mark. I'm still working on it ....

I did manage to complete counterstamped date sets of Indian cents and Two Cent Pieces though. I honestly could care less, if I ever complete the large cent set. I love attributing the counterstamps and learning about the history behind each mark.

Will get pictures. Attention to grade in later large cent years. Early years and hard to find coins acquired best available usually slabbed.

Nice, I am close but not that close. Missing 6 including the pesky 1793 Liberty cap and 1799, I'll probably get the rest but unlikely on these two.

I used to actively collect large and 1/2 cents up until about 5 years ago.
I Managed to put together a collection of about 90 Sheldon varieties, as well as 50 or so Newcomb varieites. Still missing, yes you guessed it, the 1793 Liberty cap and 1799.

I will still add some occasionally as I find them (here in Europe), and if the price is right. Just a few days ago I found an 1796 S-105, R-5 in low grade but with nice surfaces, scarce as such.
My main numismatics interest have diverged now a little, but I still find much enjoyment in Early American Coppers.

@Mink , please go ahead and post your coppers - I am sure many here would like to see them

I have never tried to photograph Large cents. What is the best way to light up dark coins without high quality camera? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wow! Congratulations! I am going for the type collection, and I just got my Flowing Hair/Liberty Cap cent--a nice 1794 one (Sheldon 28). I can't wait to get a nice 1793 Wreath Cent in VF or higher, but I can't imagine the Chain Cent. I think as of now, I am only missing the Draped Bust, Wreath and Chain cents for my cent type collection--and only the 1793 Half Cent for Half Cent collection. I guess Half Cents are easy, as there are only five to collect this way. Congratulations!
