Hi, I'm back. This 1970 no mint mark dime looked like it had a strike through but now I think it's aftermarket. Any ideas? Thanks!

*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

Hey there! Looks like a PMD to me. I find some similar to this as well every now and then.

@var, I think that your second impression was correct. This is mechanical damage and not a mint error.

Definitely post-mint damage.

FYI, take the phrase "Aftermarket Error" and throw it in the river and forget about it, replace it with "post-mint damage."

Just a typical damaged dime.

Almost everything odd on a coin is going to be post mint damage. Coins spend so very little time being made at the mint where there are only a limited number of things that can go wrong. But coins spend up to a century or more in circulation where every day they get battered, hit, etc. This is why most of the ebay auctions for error coins are NOT error coins at all.

To find an actual error, a person needs to find out what an actual coin error is. Error-ref.com.
