From 1918 to this day, the initials of the coin's designer VDB have appeared at the base of Lincoln's shoulder.

upon closer examination - yes it seems you are correct. lol. now that I have established myself as a total idiot, I think I will move on. Well at least I figured out how to navigate the site. I do have more interesting things to post about though. I was pretty sure I had the wheats down . Live and learn I guess. and thank you so much for not ridiculing me. or laughing your butt off. now if I could just figure out how to totally delete that whole topic... LOL

Sap, I think that this is the post to which Hip2myskip alludes.

Hip, there is a learning curve to numismatics, and none of us knows everything in the field. We all make mistakes upon occasion.
Stick around, and you'll see posts that are worthy of ridicule and laughing. In those cases, they get what they deserve.

@hip, best practice is to only start one thread per coin, so I have merged your two threads. This helps folks keep track of the conversation. Don't stress though—we are all here to learn.

I totally agree with Hondo, there is an endless amount of knowledge to be learned about coins . I have made mistakes but I learn from them and continue on. To shame someone who is learning only shows they they are the one who is ignorant in life experiences. You will not find them on this site.

When people value knowledge above pride, the only dumb question is the one not asked. Humanity gets in the way of everyone's thinking every once in awhile, so we all ask what we think are dumb questions.

But if someone in the future has the same question you did, uses the search function, and finds your thread, then you have scored one for helping someone else.

Yep, that is where they hid the initials after there was a huge ruckus about them being on the reverse in 1909.
