Finally found my 1955 S. Only 44,610,000 minted. This one is in very good condition and a strong sharp strike. Cool purple toning.

Very nice.

This one is in very good condition

You do realize right that 'very good' is a technical grading term and that you are writing to a bunch of informed numismatists.

In that case you are way off on the grade for this circulation find which is likely in the XF range.

I looked for this coin for decades starting in 1957 and never found one in the Chicago area.

In the last ten years I've spent some of them because you can't even give away bad BU rolls of the date. Nice choice rolls are easily sold so I go through rolls and remove problem specimens. Usually they're nice enough but have a little spotting on them.

I would still like to find one in circulation so am jealous.

Thanks for pointing out the condition slip..... Yes, I'm aware of VG, but was just so happy to find a 1955 S! Also, my grading skills are JV at best. Looking closer, I agree XF would probably be a more appropriate grade.

Cladking, Your experience searching for the 55 S in greater Chicago area confirms my thoughts - sometimes its just dumb luck!
