This came in a roll of circulated halves I got off an auction site for $10 per coin. I'm curious what grade it is. If I plan to sell the coin Should I send it in to get graded first? *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Tough call. I'll say VF-30, perhaps 35.

I'll say VF.

That sure was a great buy for ten bucks!

The key date in a widely collected series like Walkers must have come from someone's collection. At least you'd think it did. This coin needs to be graded for sure. If it comes back as a problem-free VF+ you have a $2,000 piece. And it looks like a $2,000 coin in those pics. Good luck!

to the CCF Great buy for $10. I'm not normally a fan of paying TPG to evaluate coins, but if you plan to sell it this key date example IMO justifies the grading costs simply for purposes of authenticity. I see an authentic VF25/VF30 key date - as stated above a $2000 coin.

Quote: Keep us informed, and don't cheap-out with ANACS. Why? The graders there are competent and they've seen a bazillion Walking Liberties. The first step is to make sure it's authentic. The mint mark looks a little fishy to me - too tall and narrow, possibly worked metal around it, a hair too high relative to other examples. Could be the angle of the image though. Someone with more knowledge of this series should comment on that.

I have it at VF-20 or 25. Send it to PCGS.

Coin for coin, ANACS holders often bring less money than those of the big 2.

Thanks for all of the replies and welcomes. I don't know of any coin dealers in the area that send out to PCGS or NGC and I don't think it's worth the membership for one coin. ANACS may be at a show in November though.

Almost all LCS dealers will submit to NGC or PCGS for you. Double check please. A coin of this significance belongs in a major slab.

We only have two main coin dealers in the area. One used to send to NGC but have recently stopped. I called another coin shop and they don't know of anyone in the area either.
