This one popped up in my news feed & thought I'd share. Moral of the story.... buyer beware, always!

Yikes!

Craigslist is not really the right venue for bullion purchases.

Cool description...

Police are now searching for the suspect, who is described as a 6-foot tall man with tattoos on both arms and poor dental hygiene.

That does not really narrow it down, not around my area at least.

Who in their right mind would fork over 21K for gold without getting it checked first.

I'll bet their phone lines are busy, given that description of the suspect.

Hmm, if I were looking to buy $20K in PMs after looking in the closest dark alley I would check Craigslist. My goodness!

I just purchased $20K of gold from Nigeria, I wonder when I'll get it? They said they were overnighting it.

Someone who thought they were getting $50k worth of gold, for example. Getting it checked would risk the seller discovering they were getting royally ripped off (in the mind of the greedy buyer).

Craigslist seller: I just inherited these 25 1 ounce gold bars. I know nothing about gold bars. What will you offer me?
Greedy buyer: How about $21,000.
Craigslist seller: Really, that much? You got a deal. I only take cash.

From the news segment they were all Pamp and Perth gold bars in "original" packaging so that was enough to fool the buyer.

Shouldn't be too hard to find 6' guy (less than 15% pop) and with tats on both arms, but cash is gone.
