That's what I thought at first to. Sorry the pictures don't show the intricity of the lines and how higher spots on the damage isn't scraped. How things are twisted without scraping took a lot of force. This should of damaged other parts of the coin. Being able to see it first hand it looks like it was stamped and twisted at the same time. Again sorry about the quality of the pictures but I appreciate the feedback from what you had to work with. I guess I'll try and find a way to get more detailed pictures.
There is no rotating or twisting in the minting process, the scenario you suggest is not possible. It is simple damage as stated, how it happened exactly is impossible to say, but damage for sure.
