my new ASE has a crenellated edge. https://www.error-ref.com/?s=Crenellated+rimThe edge starting at about K8 and going around to about K3. The crenellation is slightly higher than the rim and won't let the capsule close properly. the highest part being at about K8 and K1. Some may call it a Rim Fin, but it has the ramparts of the castle top (crenellation) to it. one more image to add:

Dearborn, what is your plan? Are you thinking of keeping it or returning the set? I just checked the US Mint web site, and they are still available.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Excellent clear pics. Apparently there is a difference between crenellation and finning. It looks like it's struck slightly off center too on eagle side. Some of us got finned edging on our 2022 silver Liberty medals, including me, where the capsule would not fully close. I decided to keep mine since no damage to coin surfaces. Your ASE is another example of less than stellar mint quality.

Thanks living H2O, I'm not too terribly concerned with this one as I plan on keeping it in the OGP as-is. And seeing how crenellation is more rare than just fining, maybe it is a hidden blessing.

Great photos! Did you manually adjust the settings or let the phone camera do it itself?

Quote: Great photos! Did you manually adjust the settings or let the phone camera do it itself? nope, no special adjustments - I just let the phone do 'Its thing'. I just use zoom factor 3x for the full coin images (as I do for all images) and then up to 6x or 7x for the close ups, and I braced my hand against the table to steady it. then when it was focused on what I wanted, I just snapped the image.
