Got it. Almost got knocked out by a dealer, but ended up paying $195 including shipping. Was willing to go a bit higher, but glad I didn't have to.
Excellent!

So I've been doing some market research on PMG grading and it appears to be anything but consistent. You've all seen the note I bought, which is graded F12 in what is apparently an older PMG holder. I found this other St. Louis note (not a star) in what appears to be a newer PMG holder that's graded at VF20. Maybe the note I just bought has some flaw that's not apparent in the pictures, but it certainly appears to be just as good if not better than the VF20 note. What gives here? Interested to hear comments on this. My note first, followed by the other, higher grade note.

That's why I said your note looks nicer than an F12, I always say buy the note not the grade or the grader.

Evaluating notes from photos is virtually impossible. There's too many variables. Different scanners, backgrounds, contrast, brightness and add in that they're in two different generations of PMG holders. Grades 10,12,15 and 20 can be a blur with price differences very similar especially compared to differences in prices between grades 58 and 64.

Note arrived today. I'm very pleased - I think this is grossly undergraded. I've taken two pictures of each side. First pic is direct lighting, second is lit from the side. Thanks to SteveInTampa for the side lighting suggestion. I'm posting pictures of the other 1929 $20 under that thread - difference from direct lighting to side lighting is pretty striking. Thanks for that tip.

I could see that going up to VF20. The little edge tear maybe what kept it in the F range

Is there a process to resubmit if you think a grade is wrong, or do I cut it out of this holder and send it to PCGS instead? Not sure the best route to take. Advice welcome.

Aside from the little nick, the note looks pretty limp. I don't think there's enouugh upside to send it back in, but if you're going to, I'd go to PCGS-B.

It's not really worth to resubmit. Keep it and enjoy it for what it is.

OK, I know I'm belaboring this grading thing, but take a look at the 1929 FRNB note and grade. Makes zero sense to me why this note is a VF20 and mine is an F12.

Always buy the note and not the holder. Too many examples of misgraded TPG out there.

Buy the coin/note not the holder or the grade.
