Hello All. I have been a regular stalker for about a year now, and I finally broke down and decided to join the home team. What has driven me into the fold is an unusual feature on this 1909 penny. It's located on the reverse, lower right, connecting the wheat stalk to the outer rim. It's a raised feature and I can't find a single other example on ANY wheat pennies after exhaustive research. Like to know if anyone has seen this before, and of course being a key date, whether or not it's special enough to fund my retirement (kidding of course... sort of). There's also a nice bold die crack upper left reverse, which I threw in a few pics of as well. Overall opinions about the coin are welcomed, and any helpful knowledge / advice is also welcomed. I'm here first and foremost to learn.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to stop by and render aid!

Glad to have you active and posting @som. That certainly looks like a Cud to me.

I first discovered that Cud about five years ago. Although it was the second Cud known from that year (without the V.D.B.) due to a reorganization of the way Cuds were attributed it ended up getting the listing as CU-1C-1909-01R (link is given by makesense). I don't collect Cuds in particular so unsure if I sold off the plate coin or not.

That's probably the extent of the known history of that one, although I am pretty sure I've seen at least one more since the original discovery as well so I don't think it is endlessly rare.

Nice, tropicalbats! I did not pay attention to that being your listing. Always nice to get conformation from the horses mouth.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I apologize for taking so long to get back here, work sometimes takes more than it's share.

-makecents- you have nailed it, and now I know what a ' Cud' is also. It appears to me that it looks suspiciously like the leaves in the wheat stalk, so maybe one of them peeled off a previous penny and got mashed onto this one. It's in the same location as the one pictured for CU-1c-1909-01R, though that coin is far more worn and the Cud appears wider than mine.

So now I know where to get some solid info! Appreciate it, and now I'm going to go post a few more gems I've picked from bank rolls over the last year.
