This penny has a deep stamp on the reverse resembling a belt buckle.Any other examples? Who did it? Why? The stamp is so deep it disfigures Lincoln's face on the obverse.

@herb, first welcome to CCF. Second, with a so-called maverick counterstamp like you have here, it is extremely unlikely that you'll ever find out much about who did this and why. You could try cross posting it over here as that might get more eyeballs on it:

Thanks for the search term "counter stamp/counter mark".
It could have been like a re-entry hand stamp to an event, but it would have been remarkable luck to have it so perfectly aligned orthogonally, though it is not perfectly centered.

Thanks for the link as well. I might try it.

darn autocorrect! I typed "counterstamp" as one word, but it didn't post that way. My phone's fault. I'll make sure I preview in the future.

Cool find! I do not see a belt buckle, but a barrel, possibly holding alcohol. The date of the coin was during prohibition. Of course, the counterstamp looks much more recent. Just my thoughts.

My best guess is that there was some small bar somewhere at some time called The Keg and getting of of these in change was worth a free beer.

uh-huh - I say that to myself every time it happens (over and over again)

Which is why I try to not post using my phone - it has a mind of its own.
