cool piece, someone at that time probably carried it in their pocket. obv looks low AU. reverse AU55. i'd net it at AU53
the saying on the reverse is pretty crazy and shows what was going on at that time in our history

My understanding is that pennies were in pretty short supply during the war so various merchants, etc. minted a variety of tokens to be used as substitute currency. A lot have patriotic slogans and some are just stamped with merchant's names. Interesting side piece of our hobby. Happy to get this one as I've been on the lookout for a nice example at a reasonable cost.

The CWT's were issued because of the coin hoarding during the Civil War. Merchants needed a way to do business. It's a great series to collect.

I love this token and the spirit behind what it says.

Not that I'm recommending this coin, but this particular version of this token is on my radar screen now. Here's another (not as nice) with a $19.99 initial bid on ebay. Item # 186209525984. Auction ends in 9 hours - no bids. I believe this is Fuld 214/416, but not 100% sure. Might be 416a, but I frankly don't know the difference.
