It's just PMD unfortunately.
Errers and Varietys.

The hole in the ear is of normal design, the fat S is normal it just looks fat maybe because of the hit mark at lower curve making the middle look larger and the O has the same looking effect with it having a hit mark. All is normal on the coin.

that hole is nowhere near any of my other nickels compared to and how do you make a "cents" S fatter from thin air and if the 9 was struck with something how do you get a bigger 2 lines again from thin air just questions and again how do yo make the monticellO O have a tail from thin air, do you know anything about metal ? not just looking and holding coins these are just questions please don't take them the wrong way masters

jimbean802 It's not from thin air, it is damage done to the coin by normal usage. Coins hitting coins, machinery hitting coins, coin wrapping/counting equipment etc. Just PMD.The nickel in question has been around for over 50 years.

and the rest of the coin is disappearing and those spots get bigger it does not work that way look how it's raised up between the 2 lines on the 9 it should not get bigger "physics" coin against coin rubbing ?

Just circulation damage. The S is flattened, the same hit got the bottom of the T. The O in Monticello is also a hit, just like the N in Monticello.

How about the tools to find out for yourself whenever you suspect you have a doubled die, RPM, or OMM? Go to varietyvista.com and find if you have a match. Note: If you do not find an EXACT match to your coin listed using this easy method, then you most likely have a damaged coin or other issues like (non collectable) Machine Doubling, Die Deterioration Doubling, etc. (look these up at error-ref.com) If after checking there you think you have a match, then feel free to post the link and we can verify for you or help you understand why not :D
