I don't know about the doubling, but the coin has circulation wear, nicks and ticks, and that "I've been cleaned" look.

Something is terribly wrong with your coin. Either a bad counterfeit or someone took a wire wheel brush to it. If you post flat, full images of obverse and reverse you'll get a more definitive response.

It looks like it's been whizzed.

Perhaps whizzed, but definitely corroded and harshly cleaned.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Your photos are all a bit blurry and too much glare, please work on that. The coin has been cleaned/polished. Can not tell if there is any doubling but IHC are known for "Longacre" doubling. Here is a link you might like: https://www.indianvarieties.com/fly...e-varieties/John1

I'm not seeing a doubled die, I am seeing heavy wear, corrosion and harsh cleaning.

I agree fully with John1 Quote: Your photos are all a bit blurry and too much glare It certainly has been cleaned, possibly whizzed, in the past. Can't see any doubling from these pictures.
