Unlike many collectors, I don't have the patience for larger complete sets that include coins from each mint for each year, although I give a LOT of credit to those collectors that choose to do that. That does indeed provide a tremendous amount of accomplishment, and those that do that should rightfully be VERY proud! Doing DATE sets is easier (yes, I'm lazy). Fewer coins are needed (so the cost is less), and more importantly, I can pick and choose which mint to buy for each individual year, since only one coin is needed per year. While some collectors prefer the challenge of going with tougher mints in their DATE set (and I commend them for that), I choose the more common coins for each year. With fewer coins, and including the more common mints for each year, my budget for the set can then search for coins in higher grades! I would not be able to afford to put together a complete date and mint mark set in those higher grades. That's my rationale for the DATE sets I've put together - Lincoln Wheat DATE set (50 coins), Standing Lib Quarter Full Head DATE Set (14 coins), Morgan dollar DATE Set - not yet posted on the forum - (28 coins), and now this 10 coin Peace dollar DATE Set. In the title to this post, I put the word "Completed" in quotes, since I'm still searching for a few upgrades. Here's a single photo of the individual "Composite" photos of the ten coins. The Current rank is #12: Because the photo had to be reduced to work for this site, here's the grade for each coin. However, see below on a separate reply further down on page one, each individual photo. 1921 65+. 1922 66+. 1923 66+. 1924 66+. 1925 66+. 1926 66. 1927 64+. 1928 65. 1934 66+. 1935 66+. Steve

Beautiful high-grade date set, Steve! And all CAC, as well... (that last part doesn't surprise me as I'm quite familiar with many of your registry sets... ).

Quote: I'm still searching for a few upgrades. These are amazingly gorgeous examples as-is, but maybe you are trying for all graded at 66 and up?

First, thanks to fenton, hokiefan_82, ericgreen, and Spence for your kind words.
Regarding the upgrades, I can't afford to have all of the coins currently less than 66 upgraded to that level, but I will share that among the few I want to upgrade, I want to upgrade the 1927. I've seen several in the the grade I want, with CAC stickers, but I just didn't like the eye appeal.
One of the things I learned from a mentor many years ago is to never buy an upgrade just due to the label. ONLY buy an upgrade if the eye appeal of the new coin is nicer than the coin it's replacing! In my 50 Coin Classic Commem Silver Type Set I have a handful of coins in lower grades, having searched for years for upgrades, but I've passed over hundreds of coins in affordable higher grades, with CAC stickers, simply because I like the eye appeal of the current coins better than those I've seen in the higher grades!
Steve

Winesteven, Very nice set. I always wanted to but never will be able to put together a "complete" set of Peace dollars. Oh well. John1
