Hello Coin Family! I found this in a bank roll yesterday. I don't even know what kind of error this is, as far as what to call it. In my estimation, the complete lack of any damage showing on the reverse, and the way some features seem to 'melt' into the crevasse, rules out getting whacked after leaving the mint. Just a big hole that didn't get any copper. Maybe a giant chunk of grease on the dye? Is this something worth running through grading and auction house? I've heard large errors are desirable. Any thoughts, opinions and advice on maybe selling it would be appreciated. I only paid a penny for it and so not hard to make a little extra when getting an item that cheap! Thank you for stopping by and thank you in advance for taking the time to offer your experience and wisdom. Have a wonderful day all!

to the forum!

Looks like a nice lamination that has fallen off.

Yes, could be a lamination peel, but it could also be a struck-thru foreign object. Nice pictures by the way...

Leaning toward a lamination/planchet-related issue, but strike-though is intriguing. Would love to see the coin in-hand.

looks like a lamination that came off before the strike. - note how the 9 leans down into the void but the 1 in has barely struck up. Lincoln's jacket is also struck on the missing area.

There's some nice size to it. Congrats.

I agree about the weight being helpful.
(To two decimal points)

Laminations tend to have a linear look to them which I'm not seeing.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

Very Nice!..and it is a bit underweight, corresponding to the missing material on the obverse.

Could be an odd shaped LAM issue. Also thinking a piece of scrap might have been rolled in during the (stocks) rolling process and was struck through, then fell out sometime after strike. Thanks, Doug.
