NGC is, of course, just Krause data. Krause (RIP) pricing for Chinese coins... in 2024? For real?!!
Yes, it is, um, **Chihli** province, China... Year 24 (1898). However, as the weight and size suggest, it's actually the 5 cents (AKA "3.6 candareens") rather than the 10 cents denomination.
https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...duid-1299483Miracle of miracles, it looks genuine! I chuckled when I saw the "Yuan... estate find". The Yuan is the large, dollar equivalent coin, and 99% of such coins posted on forums are obvious modern fakes from people with apparently very undiscerning grandparents. Even a lot of the minor denominations are faked. This piece, however, appears honest. A tad grungy, but certainly not a horrible piece overall.
Some comparables... First, a screenshot of
ebay sales over the last few years. Then, a few Stack's auction links. Several of these are, to me anyway, overgraded - both major grading services have gotten rather liberal on lower/mid-grade circulated world pieces. At any rate, look at the actual coins themselves vs. yours and compare.
These really jump in price in better grades but this specimen isn't there. Still a nice find - definitely a better Chinese minor.
I included some "Year 23"... slightly lower mintage than "Year 24" and thus a tad scarcer, but their value is in the ballpark.
