I am down to 4 empty slots on my Dansco 7070. I think for the most part it has turned out great - I've been working on it for probably 2 years and have filled it with some really nice coins - some from my original collection back when I was a kid in the 70's and some purchased more recently. But now I am down to four "expensive" slots. I try to limit my collecting budget to $50/month, so with these coins, it's gonna go a little slower. Here's what's left and my budget for each - hoping to get coins in the VF or so range - maybe XF on a couple if I get lucky: 1. Draped Bust Cent - I'd like a 1798 if possible - $450 2. Classic Head Cent (1808-14) - $350 3. 20 Cent Piece (1875-S) - $200 4. Seated dollar w/Motto - $400 Any words of advice from someone who has filled these slots?

Advice: Put up some photos for all of us to see!
(I know that's not very helpful, but I don't have a 7070, so I'm not qualified to give legitimate advice!)

KenKat, congrats on your accomlishments thus far. My suggestion, besides patience, would be to post in the "wanted to buy" section here to start off. Quite a few folks working on their 7070's, and some may be in the market to upgrade. If you can purchase from a fellow member that meets your grade level, and they can upgrade with the proceeds, it's a win/win situation.

Tights24 hit the nail on the head..patience is the key. Keeping saving money and hold out for a really nice problem free example. Maybe even raise your sights on one of the 4 and make it the "crown centerpiece" of your type set. Hold out for an XF-AU Clasic head cent, yes it will set you back, but everytime you open the set and see that coin you're going to smile and feel good. Plus those coins in higher grades tend to value up each year better than the lower grades. Good long term potential that can reap monetary gain as well as pleasure from your hobby. You have a great set, when do we get photos?

Well, I have been shamed into getting the camera out! Let me see what kind of shots I can get - it's a cloudy day, so lighting could be dicey...

Thanks everyone for your comments! Very appreciated! tights24, I will definitely try the Buy/Sell forums. I've been busy there buying up Lincoln cents and have sold some extras too to help finance the 7070. It's great to buy, sell and trade with other collectors. jfransch, your recommendation to be patient is definitely something I struggle with. If I didn't have the budget, I'd probably end up in the poor house. But, I have learned to save and wait until a coin really catches my interest. It's never a good idea to settle; there's a couple of coins in there where I bought impulsively and I bet those will be the first to upgrade. A couple of comments about some of the specific coins: 1. Some of these have no doubt been cleaned but cleaned coins need love too 2. Most of the clad examples are from a 1973 Uncirculated Set that my dad bought for me when I was 9. I cut them out of the plastic wrap back then but at least I put them in plastic holders. It's neat to have some coins that I collected as a kid. Others from my old time collection are the 1937 Buffalo, the 1945 Mercury and the 1946 Roosevelt. They were in the original 2x2's I bought them in back in the 70's. $0.40 each! 3. The 1857-O Dime was given to me by my Grandfather. It was black as night when I got it so of course I cleaned it with some silver polish (I was probably 8 at the time). It's scratched, cleaned and probably no more than a Fine but it will always be one of my favorite coins! 4. Some day I would like to complete the gold page too but that's gonna be some major $$$. Thanks for letting me share my 7070. Ken

I am down to 4 empty slots in mine as well. I have a few of the ones you still need filled though. You need two of the same ones I need (classic head large cent, Seated dollar w/motto), the only difference is mine has got to be a minimum grade of AU-50 and problem free. I also have been working on mine for about 2 years just like you. The draped bust Large Cent and the 20¢ piece I acquired were graded by a top TPG company because I was not confident enough in my grading skills on these particular types to be sure they made the grade and was authentic. The same will have to apply with the 4 coins I am needing to finish up the album for the same reason. If you are interested in seeing mine there is a link in my signature line to my webpage of my 7070 album
