Hello, everyone. I recently saw an unknown medal with a compass-like design in the middle and some words 'Tracking and Locating Group',but no more information. I guess this medal may be from a federal agency or law enforcement department. Can anyone find out what is it?

@12k, first welcome to CCF. Second, can you please post the diameter and weight of this piece? I suspect it is a so-called "challenge coin", but knowing those numbers could help. Also, please confirm that there aren't any letters along the edge. Thx.

@Spence This item is 3 inches in diameter and weights about 8 oz so I think it's a medal rather than a challenge coin. It's a collection of a friend so I don't know yet whether there exist any additional letters. I may provide more details if I find some.

Yikes that is big! Could almost be a coaster.

I recently found on ebay a similar challenge coin which the seller claims to be a CIA coin. I think my question is solved.

The coin posted at the top (above) shows a 'vacant' reverse. The coin on ebay (seller in Australia) has a full reverse:

Very curious.

Good point @ijn. Perhaps the OP has a partially-finished blank.

Also, to help us learn in the future when that auction comes down, here is a pic of the other side when finished:

very nice identifying this challenge coin

And maybe the back is blank because they didn't find anything yet.
