Any thoughts on the striation? I'm pretty sure it's just some kind of post-mint transfer that happened, but just wanted to double-check before tossing this guy in the change jar. Thanks!

These look like roller lines, which will gradually disappear with circulation.

I'm on team roller marks too.

look like grill marks from a miniature grill.. I'm not sure these are roller lines though - I have never seen them so perfectly spaced out and only on one side..

Nice example of roller lines. I've seen them on both sides, and limited to just one (visually...).

Quote: I'm not sure these are roller lines though - I have never seen them so perfectly spaced out and only on one side.. I agree with Dearborn, this is something else. They are too perfect and missing in front of the face also. Some kind of staining after it left the mint. Could be something as simple as ink from a stamp cancel.

you go ahead CoinFrog - I'll stick with not roller lines.. Just remember that the rollers ain't some tiny bar, it probably had a circumference of at least 2 feet or probably more (I cannot find a reference on the actual size) But if these EVENLY spaced lines roller lines then the roller was miraculously spaced evenly around the entire roller.

I am going to say, cup holder coin or something that transferred design to coin in a moist environment.

I am also in camp Not Roller Lines. Roller lines are much finer and less regular. Looks like the coin surface was stained against some kind of ridged object.

Kind of looks like the adhesive lines that used to be on the page where you stuck your pictures in a photo or stamp album.

While it does indeed have that appearance, who would put the coin face down in the picture album?
