I finally added the last non Seated Liberty dime I need for my US dime type collection (a bonus will be getting a Pillar 1 Real coin eventually!). While I will look to upgrade some of the dimes in the future, it's good to be ever closer to completion. How would you grade this small dentils Capped Bust dime? Please forgive the smudging on the plastic holder, especially visible on the reverse. I hope to get it reholdered some day. Edited by Adam590 07/23/2024 11:34 am

I don't see any wear using these photos. MS-62 is my guess.

Excellent addition - big fan of the tone it has taken on. I'm with IGE, 62-63.

I'll say MS-62.

Tough to be exact with those pics - so I'll go in the middle of the road and say MS63

Guess I'll say MS-63 as well absent better pics.

Thanks for all of your opinions so far. I will post the grade that PCGS assigned tomorrow (48 hours after the original post). For me it is worth it to send it off to be reslabbed eventually, and upgraded to goldshield so I can get a True View image of it.
Again, I apologize for the bad photos. This slab is ready for retirement, and you best believe I will preserve the new one well.

Adam. not sure why you would pay for TV photos. they rarely if ever represent the coin accurately. I guess it would make for an easier sale but to each his own.
if you take it out of this holder, take a couple in-hand photos before shipping it off. i'd rather see those rather than TV photos. just a request

Thanks so much for the advice. I figure the TV pic is a reasonable upgrade when I already want to send it in just to get a new holder, given how scratched and fogged this one is. My priority is for the new holder, the TV pic is just a plus.
Sadly, I will not be cracking it out myself. I will just send it in to PCGS to have them reholder it so they don't change their mind about the grade (which I think is fair anyway--not too high, not too low).

Your guesses were all pretty close, and the poor photos made it difficult, but several of you agreed with PCGS, and almost everyone else was one point away in either direction. I chose this coin for the luster and pretty clean surfaces, and love it as the type coin for Capped Bust, Small Dentils dime in my collection!
