Hello! I found this 1961D half dollar that looks like it has an RPM error. However, I compared it with Variety Vista and Wexler's and it doesn't seem to match. I wonder what you guys think.
At first glance, I'd say Machine Doubling. For fun, give the coin a long soak in 100% acetone--might reduce or eliminate that film-like crud. Won't hurt the coin. Don't rub!
@gli, when the doubling is shelf-like and serves to reduce the width of the letters, then you should suspect Machine Doubling as noted by several others above. An RPM will be wider and typically show one or more split serifs.
